Description of Project:
The Co-Op is assigned to two 3rd grade classrooms to teach a science topic. We will be showcasing a presentation to them on the topics Mr. Ted gave us to choose which are ecosystems, sound waves, Newton's 1st & 2nd law, etc. You are allowed to pair up with someone or be on your own and I paired up with Savannah. We chose Conservation of Energy as our topic and we did this because it really appeals to the kids.
Why did we choose conservation of energy?
Conservation of Energy is basically different kinds of energy and how they all work differently. We chose to focus on potential energy and kinetic energy, with this we would create something to show the kids that grabs their attention. Me and my partner chose roller coasters and we will build a paper roller coaster made of card-stock and tape. We use marbles here, this is simple to build activity and help intrigue the kids. At this age, they love speed and colorful things, full of excitement, and what is a better way to show conservation of energy then through roller coasters.
