Our Project
For our project we must make a political cartoon of a
social issue regarding politics. We observed different
types of cartoons aesthetically and with a critical eye.
We created a CER which essentially is making a claim
and backing it up with evidence while also explaining
the reasoning behind the claim. Lastly, we made many
drafts for our final cartoon, but the refinement is what
really makes our cartoons special.

Habits of Heart and Mind
A habit of heart and mind I grew in was definitely refinement.
I made countless (more than 10) of rough drafts but I pushed
myself until I finally got it right.
One of the habits of heart and mind I struggled with would
have to be perseverance. I struggled with this because I
produced quality work but I procrastinated a lot which
really set me back.

The Process
The way we made a political cartoon was by first looking at other examples and observed them aesthetically. We practiced a lot by trying tactics like shading (hatching, cross-hatching), adding text to previously made cartoons and just playing around with the concept. We started by putting ideas down on piece of paper. Using the ideas we had we started to refine them to see what they would look like We then decided on our final piece and started to work on our final piece. For me personally, I wasn't satisfied with my idea. I made a lot more drafts just to see what I liked. Eventually I figured out what I liked and I moved on to my final. On our finals, we made a 1-inch border around the paper so that we can add a frame around it. We went over it lightly with a pencil and once we were satisfied, we finally moved on to a pen and finished it up.
